Wanting to catch the moonset this morning, I headed out to the beach at 6:15 am only to find that the moon was hidden behind a very thick cloud cover.  Disappointed, I made my way to Balboa Park to take advantage of the time.

An hour and three passes later, I was blessed to catch this hummingbird on digital film feeding on the flowers in the Butterfly Garden.  He so made up for the missed moonset!

Great progess today in "clearing the weeds from the vegetable garden area" project.  Only down side was surprising a really large lizard who had made his home in the weeds around the faucet.  Old brown woman can jump!

While outside, at the patio table, transferring my sunflower seedlings from their egg carton homes to peet pots, the boys came outside to join me.  After talking about his day at school, Dakota taught his PapaBear how to play "Slap Jack".   It was a "good memory moment" captured in my heart.

We have lived in our home for a year and three months, and it hasn't been until this week that I have truly appreciated our backyard.  It's just a grass yard with a triangle shaped dirt patch at the end (where our butterfly garden and vegetable garden will be), but it is so peaceful.  Especially as I sit on Jessica's bench and watch the sun set.

With one more greenhouse starter tray each, PapaBear and I planted more vegetable and flower seeds, respectively, for germination.  We should have a great variety this year!

Getting closer to achieving the painted effect within my photographs.  My front yard daisies have been so gorgeous to practice on in the afternoon sun.

Seven days after planting the Mammoth Sunflower seeds, the germination process rendered this beautiful sight!  Life is truly beautiful!

Something we are doing differently this year is testing the soil.  We discovered that the soil was deficient of nitrogen, potash, and phosphorous.  Off to the nursery with our readings!

I have decided to create a butterfly garden this year.  First step is to clear the area of weeds and a large bird of paradise.

Today's fifteen minutes of practice involved working with an off-camera flash on a stick.

Found an uninvited and unwanted visitor munching on my strawberry plant today!

Bought some lady bugs to be my models as I put in some macro practice with the new extension tubes.

Having received my extension tubes today, I eagerly tried them out (with my 50 mm lens) on the strawberry plants outside.

Began clearing my flower beds, potted my lily bulbs, and started germinating flower seeds such as the Mammoth Sunflower.

Had some "me" time by taking the "Sew Cute" scrapbook class last night.
