After my lunch date at Indian Palace with my husband, we drove by the Marston House to see where it was located in preparation for next week's photography class.  We parked and walked around the garden there and found this interesting plant.  Do not know what it is, but hope to do some research and find out.

Bit the bullet and purchased what I consider to be my first "serious" investment to my photography - a Canon 50mm 1.4 lens.   Now to learn how to use it.

(Note:  After over 10 years of faithful use, our router died which delayed the posting of this blog entry to the next day when we purchased a new router and had customer service assist us in successfully setting it up for wireless use.)

Another gorgeous Southern California day!  It was perfect weather for my photography class today where we practiced the technique of "blocking".  This is one of my "blocking" pictures from today's class.

Finally finished my photography composition week 2 homework.  It took most of the day, but it is done in time for tomorrow's class.  Now to await for the teacher's feedback.

As my head hit the pillow and my eyelids were closing for a night's sleep, I suddenly realized that I had not take a picture for today to post!  Grabbing my iPhone, using my Hipstamatic app and turning on my laptop, I took a pic of my iPhoto library to post.  Will do better tomorrow.

(As luck would have it, our internet was down so I didn't get to post it until the following morning.)

Two games today, winning the first and losing the second.  It had been a while since we had seen him play.  We couldn't have been prouder.

Practice, practice, practice.  Look what I did in our front yard!  Can't wait to "stick the flash" at the beach at sunset soon!

Having become a avid user of Skype, I am becoming proficient at video chatting and texting, and taking a screenshot of it at the same time!  Who says there's a technological generation gap?!?!

Taking bets on how long it will take us this year to take down the Christmas lights and the Christmas tree.  Thank goodness it's a fake tree!

I had the wonderful opportunity this morning to spend some time practicing shooting and catching up with my photography assignments prior to my composition class.  Great class today!

Oh man!  Had just laid my head down on my pillow when it hit me.  I forgot to do my daily post!  I had been having so much fun catching up on dvr'd shows with Alia and thinking about Ana's email today of her Hong Kong experience thus far.  As you can see, I missed the mark with today's picture (note the time displayed of 12:00AM).  But here it is none the less.

After driving through Huntington Beach and Seal Beach, Highway 1 brought us to Long Beach where Alia and I decided to take a self-guided tour of the Queen Mary.   Even though I grew up in Los Angeles, I had never been on the Queen Mary.  Check that off the bucket list!

It's been a long week with many adventures and challenges, but it only served to enforce the sense of love, family and home.

Our annual "Mommy & Me Day" to celebrate Jessica's birthday was today.  This year, we spent the day together in downtown Los Angeles on a self-guided tour of the Historic District.  I even had the opportunity to share some fond and happy childhood memories with my daughter.  It was a terrific day!

5 January

An experience of a lifetime an ocean away.  Tonight I am left to await a comforting call to confirm my daughter's safe arrival to her new home for the next five and a half months.

Good day today with a some work done this morning, an awesome photography class mid-day, late lunch with Jessica at Hillcrest Sandwich Co. with dessert at BabyCakes, and the last of the Hong Kong trip errands (currency exchange) with Ana.  She just finished packing and getting to bed.  We have a early morning drive to LAX tomorrow.  I am not looking forward to the trip back alone.  Kleenex packed - check!

Loved the skies this early evening as we seemed to be in the same mood.  Spots of sunny disposition with dark patches of dreariness.  I am so excited and happy for my daughter's future experience of studying abroad, but my heart is heavy knowing I will be missing her like mad.

Ana, my second oldest, leaves to study abroad in Hong Kong on Wednesday.  We had lunch with my oldest, Jessica, today so Ana could see her one last time before leaving.

This is the first day of my 365 project which involves taking a picture once a day and posting it on this blog on the same day.  The first photo is of my computer screen showing the creation of this blog.

I know it isn't a really exciting or interesting photo, but it will have to do as I did not want the first day of the year to go by without starting my 365 project and creating this blog.
